Temporary emergency closure of A379 Torcross to Strete Gate (Slapton Line)

The A379 from Torcross to Strete Gate is closed until further notice following damage caused by Storm Ingrid on Friday night into Saturday. Engineers from Devon County Highways are inspecting the road to ensure the integrity of the carriageway and work will begin shortly to remove around 100 tonnes of shingle that the storm has deposited along its length. “Road Closed” signs have been placed at both ends of the affected stretch.

Due to the risk that parts of the base may have been undermined by the sea, Highways advise that the road should be regarded as unsafe to use until proven otherwise. Those vehicles that have been seen evading the barriers and using the road despite the warnings do so entirely at their own peril and are at risk of prosecution.
